What Are We Learning In School?

Reading: Students focus on reading folktales and mythology stories. They will examine the characteristics of adventure stories, compare two or more settings, events, and characters in an mythology story, and describe the impact of a narrator’s point of view.
Math: Using the area model, and the partial quotients to divide multi-digit whole number by a two digit number.
Physical Sciences: Electricity and magnetism
Observe the effect of static charges
Describe and explain how to produce static charges
Explain how materials are used to reduce static electricity
Cite examples of the effects of static electricity
Explain how lightning is an example of static electricity
Social Studies:
-Analyze how the American Revolution altered colonial and national governments—The Articles of Confederation
-Identify and summarize how democratic principles influenced our founding documents—The Articles of Confederation
- Explain the significance of democratic principles in the development of the Articles of Confederation
-Describe the role of Marylanders in influencing the building of our new nation—The Articles of Confederation
Writing:
Narrative week 1-3
Students plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish an original folktale or myth.

Informative/explanatory week-4-7
Students research a movement in United States history in order to write an informative piece about how the conflicts and compromises of the movement caused change in the United States government.
